The Role To provide operational and business leadership on projects and across portfolios in the North (and nationally where appropriate). The role could include strategic leadership of a major scheme and/or the portfolio management of multiple projects and programmes. Will have P&L responsibility for the successful delivery within the portfolio. Purpose and Scope The Operations Director is responsible for managing the client engagement and pre-construction activities to secure the above projects as construction contracts. The role is critical to the overall success of the business unit and requires a leader with great people and business acumen. The Operations Director needs to balance the competing demands of the client and other stakeholders with the demands and governance requirements of the business. The role works alongside the Commercial Director and the central operations team provide leadership to the business teams. Accountabilities: Business Development and Work Winning With the EGM UK Regions and other senior managers, develop and implement a strategy to identify targets and position with key clients and in key sectors to ensure Lendlease is in pole position for focus projects With the EGM UK Regions, establish and maintain excellent relationships with potential clients, consultants and influential supply chain partners to maintain market knowledge and create strong advocates for Lendlease Liaise with others in UK Regions and the wider business to knowledge share around national clients Working with the EGM and Commercial Director, provide operational and commercial oversight of local bid activity to ensure projects have a balanced risk and reward profile and that the win rate (through to full conversion) is in line with the business plan Provide strategic input into target projects and ensure adequate resources are available to support the bids and conversions Project Development and Delivery Full operational responsibility for the safe and successful delivery of projects Where appropriate, assume direct responsibility for the delivery of a major project or programme Line management of project management staff With the EGM UK Regions, manage key client and other stakeholder relationships in delivery Ensure projects operate an overall plan of works (including design, procurement, construction and commissioning) to ensure the completion dates are achieved Ensure company safety procedures throughout the development and construction processes to operate incident and injury free Ensure a quality system of work is in place to ensure a zero defects and zero legacy outcome Conduct PiDs and other reviews to monitor the progress of the design, construction and commissioning activities and action accordingly to ensure the works are completed within time, budget, safely and to the required quality People Establish and maintain a high performing culture with a focus on health and wellbeing and diversity and inclusion Create clear career paths and succession plans through a culture of active encouragement to career and personal development Experience and Desirable Skills: Relevant tertiary qualification in project management and or/construction related discipline Knowledge of Construction and property industry legislation Experience of working for a major contractor Experience of contracts, planning, financial controls and reporting Excellent communication and Influencing skills Leading, inspiring teams and people management Preconstruction experience on mixed use construction projects Bidding and work winning experience Strong written and verbal communication skills Commercial acumen and commercial management of trade packages We aspire to create a diverse workforce by recruiting suitably qualified candidates from a range of backgrounds regardless of age, sexual orientation, ethnic or national origin or colour, sex, trans- gender status, religion or belief, pregnancy and maternity, marital or civil partnership, or any other group who face disadvantage in our society.
